The 2018 Interprofessional Education & Practice Conference Addressing Health Disparities is themed "Moving Toward Health Equity: From the Neighborhood to the Global Communities.” Hosted by the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, the two-day event will take place on February 22-23, 2018 at Howard University’s Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library.

Conference Goals

  • Empower health care professionals and students to become “Health Disparities Champions.”
  • Impart the integration of principles and practices to identify and reduce health disparities in practice and in educational design.
  • Break the cycle of health disparities by utilizing the next generation of informed and empowered health care practitioners.

Conference Objectives

  • To inform participants on current health disparities issues in the United States and abroad.
  • To equip participants with equitable solutions to help reduce health disparities.
  • To engage faculty to integrate an understanding of health disparities into course design.

The target audience consists of practicing health professionals (i.e., nurses, pharmacists, physicians, nutritionists/dietitians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physician assistants, radiation therapists, speech language pathologists, health information systems professionals, etc.). In addition, faculty and students from colleges and universities that offer health professional programs should attend. Certificates of attendance will be sent to all attendees via email after the conference.
