MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Former U.S. Health Secretary Louis W. Sullivan to visit the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing and to meet with Cincinnati health leaders to improve Ohio’s health equity & expand minority health workforce


Cincinnati, OH – Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Dr. Louis Sullivan, will be in Cincinnati on April 19th to visit with the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing Leadership 2.0 students and meet with local health leaders to discuss improving Ohio’s health equity and expanding the health workforce in underserved communities statewide. He will meet with health leaders during a luncheon in the Marriott Kingsgate Conference Center. Immediately following he will visit the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing. You are invited to attend the Leadership 2.0 Spring celebration and meet with Dr. Sullivan.

Dr. Sullivan plans to address topics related to the need for increased healthcare access in Ohio and the associated health workforce issues through the expansion of the Ohio Alliance efforts.

Who: Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services & Chairman of The Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions.

What: College of Nursing Leadership 2.0 Spring celebration. The event marks the end of the sophomore year for students in the program. The celebration features a ceremony where each student receives an urban stole, which they will keep to wear at graduation.

The Center for Closing the Health Gap in Greater Cincinnati promotes awareness about health disparities through education, training, advocacy and outreach activities for organizations and individuals in Greater Cincinnati. About the Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions

Under the leadership of Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions was organized in January 2005, to act on the reports and recommendations of the Sullivan Commission (Missing Persons: Minorities in the Health Professions, September, 2004), and the Institute of Medicine Committee on Institutional and Policy-Level Strategies for Increasing the Diversity of the U.S. Healthcare Workforce (In the Nation’s Compelling Interest: Ensuring Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce). The Alliance’s goal is to provide the focused leadership, deep commitment, and sustainable efforts that will result in the addition to our nation’s workforce of more well-trained health professionals from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds able to provide quality health care and innovative research in the decades ahead.
